Gamecocks Persevere & Beat the Tigers
On March 5th, the Gamecock Sailing dinghy team competed at Clemson University for the North Points #2 event. We took second place behind College of Charleston, while beating the Clemson Tigers who came in fourth place! There were postponements and light air but Clemson was a great host. The night before racing we had the opportunity to talk to other teams about attending our invitational and although some have prior commitments there is some great energy around it with a handful of teams already confirmed! Margaux Bacro-Duverger and Meriwether Roberts were sailing A fleet, keeping consistent scores. Mackey Leventis and Ashley Thess sailed in B and scored a second place later in the day. Coach David met us there bearing snacks, gatorade, and great pointers for the FJs. Coach was sporting his “Carolina Dad” t-shirt to show support. We had many dinghy team members there to cheer the sailors on and to discuss tactics with. Overall, we did our best and it definitely showed. This weekend at Georgia Tech we will be back in 420s and everyone is excited to see some wind!
